Artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we create, share, and protect creative works. This introductory class will guide you through the fundamentals of AI and copyright, offering a clear and practical overview of the current frameworks, challenges, and future scenarios. Participants will explore how ownership, authorship, and responsibility are being redefined in an era where human creativity increasingly intersects with machine intelligence.
The class blends theory with inclusive discussion, encouraging participants to share perspectives and reflect on how these developments affect their own practice. Expect a session that is both thought-provoking and directly relevant to your professional reality in the cultural and creative industries.
The class will be held online via Zoom, in English. It's free of charge but you need to register to be able to attend, see more info below.
Thorbjörn Öström works as a lawyer and has extensive hands-on experience of artists' conditions and the specific legal and practical challenges they face in their respective markets. He brings over two decades of experience of working with copyright in the creative sector, as a lawyer in several law firms, but also as senior legal counsel at the Swedish Writer’s Union and STIM.
He has worked as copyright coordinator of the Ministry of Culture, specializing in copyright and the professional and economic conditions for artists, and was also Government Office Administrator for Swedish Arts Grants Committee. Since the beginning of 2024, he is assigned as KLYS's legal expert on AI issues. KLYS is the Swedish Joint Committee for Artistic and Literary Professionals, an umbrella organization for collaboration between professional artists from all art disciplines in matters of common interest such as authors’ rights.
Thorbjörn regularly holds lectures and trainings on copyright, licensing agreements and contract negotiations for university students, academics, public authorities and lawyers, but mostly for authors and performers in the artistic and creative sectors.
All participants will receive a link to the online class beforehand.
