A workshop on norms, privilege and anti-racist approaches at work

The decisions we make at work are often shaped by assumptions we may not even be aware of. These assumptions can influence the language we use, whose perspectives are heard and how we respond to the people around us. This workshop explores how norms, unconscious bias and privilege show up in professional settings, and what we can do to challenge exclusionary patterns. Through a mix of short talks, discussion and practical exercises, you will deepen your understanding of the issues and gain tools for putting inclusive and anti-racist principles into practice in your own role. The workshop provides space for honest reflection, constructive conversation and shared learning, using situations that many of us encounter in our working lives. It’s presented in collaboration with the School of Journalism at Lund University.

Who is it for?

This workshop is aimed at people working across culture, media and communications in Skåne. It will also be relevant to anyone whose role involves working with people, audiences, teams or content, and who wants to build greater confidence in inclusive and anti-racist practice.

The workshop is offered free of charge thanks to funding from the European Social Fund. To be able to participate you need to be based in Skåne and be either employed or self-employed. Students and unemployed individuals cannot participate, unfortunately.

How the workshop supports your professional development

Being able to recognise bias, understand different perspectives and respond to exclusion is relevant across many roles and sectors. These skills can strengthen the way you communicate, make decisions, collaborate, lead and create. During the workshop, you will develop the awareness and practical judgement needed to approach complex situations with greater confidence and care. The knowledge can be applied directly in your current role, while also building transferable skills that support your wider professional development across different workplaces and sectors.

By the end of the workshop, you will be better equipped to:

• Recognise how unconscious bias can influence professional judgements, decisions and relationships
• Communicate in ways that are more inclusive and attentive to different experiences
• Identify microaggressions and respond to them constructively
• Use reflective questions to support better decision-making, collaboration and communication
• Act as an ally with greater confidence, awareness and accountability
• Understand how representation, minority stress and privilege can shape people’s experiences at work
• Contribute to more inclusive processes, teams and workplace cultures

• Navigate situations involving power, norms and different perspectives with greater confidence.

  The workshop combines accessible research and key concepts with real-life examples, group discussion and practical exercises. You will explore case studies and workplace dilemmas, considering how the ideas apply to your own role and professional context. There will be time for both individual reflection and shared discussion. The session concludes with concrete tools and possible next steps that you can begin using in your day-to-day work.

Workshop leaders

Ina Dowland Herrera

Ina Dowland Herrera runs the TNKVRT podcast and is a social scientist and choreographer. She works with global justice and youth participation, bringing together creative project management and civic education. Through TNKVRT and Creators Society – a network of creatives who use their art to support human rights and social change – she draws on research, storytelling and performance to highlight injustice and encourage engagement with anti-racism, asylum rights and social justice.

Danny Lam

Danny Lam is the founder of TNKVRT and works as a UX designer and consultant specialising in accessibility and user-centred design. Through TNKVRT, he works to make complex social issues easier to understand and more accessible to wider audiences. His work is driven by a commitment to human rights and civic education, and by the belief that knowledge can lead to greater understanding, inclusion and change.

• Level: No previous knowledge or experience is required.

  All materials will be provided. You do not need to bring anything with you. You are welcome to bring a laptop or notebook if you would like to take notes, but this is entirely optional.

How to register

• Press the ‘Sign me up!’ button at the top of the page and fill in the registration of interest form on Eventbrite. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
• The workshop is free of charge thanks to funding from the European Social Fund, therefore we need to collect statistics and personal data about all participants and their organisations.
• To take part, you need to be employed or self‑employed and based in Skåne. Unfortunately, students or unemployed persons cannot participate.
• Once you have registered your interest, Media Evolution will contact you. An authorised signatory from your company will be asked to sign a certificate confirming your participation. Only once the certificate is signed, your seat is confirmed.
• You are then enrolled in our skills development programme and will have the opportunity to connect with other like‑minded professionals, as well as receive regular updates on what’s happening across Media Evolution’s community.

This workshop is part of Learn, Create, Engage – a project that helps develop competence and strengthen people who work within the cultural and creative businesses in Skåne, by offering free courses and much more. It is run by Media Evolution in collaboration with Region of Skåne, with funding from the European Social Fund.
